Have they found the fountain of youth?

by Bethlanai on February 27, 2012

in Good Ish

Meet Annette Larkins and Jim Morris

Miss Annette just turned 70…yes you read that right 70 years old.

She looks younger than me and I’m hatin’ for real

Mr. Jim is 75 yep 75 years old…fellas be ashamed! very ashamed lol

Yea this video is old couldn’t find a more recent one

Seems their main “secret” is the raw foods/vegan diet. *eats a Wendy’s single with cheese*

But seriously, after seeing these 2 would you be willing to change your lifestyle and go vegan if it meant looking 30 to 40 years younger as you age?

Oh yea don’t forget about this vegan either hehehe

1 msvonnz February 27, 2012 at 7:19 am

*hatin. carbs and all*

2 psufanfall99 February 27, 2012 at 7:30 am

They look amazing. *Pulls up next to Beth, eating a bacon cheeseburger from Five Guys*

3 Beth Lanai February 27, 2012 at 7:34 am

I'm no nutritionist but I'm more inclined to think its the lack of processed foods that is aiding in their youthfulness not necessarily only eating nuts and berries…

I think one can achieve a healthy body and still eat meat…as long as its lean meat and preferably grass fed not grain fed (cause grain got some BS in it)

eh but I could be wrong

and of course I do wonder if genetics play a part because look at Ms Annette her face is smooth and her skin is beautiful…Mr. Jim has a great body but he looks aged in the face…but they appear to have the same "diet plan"

4 ToodySaysHey February 27, 2012 at 9:01 am

I believe you are correct. They probably eat all organic as well.

The key is less processing, less chemicals, less additives. If you can raise your own veggies and keep a few chickens around, good on ya.

The irony is we pay thru the nose for healthy food when a couple of hundred years ago, people ate like this on the daily.

Progress.

5 chocl8t February 27, 2012 at 10:19 am

I'm no nutritionist but I'm more inclined to think its the lack of processed foods that is aiding in their youthfulness not necessarily only eating nuts and berries…

DING DING DING!! I think we have a winner!! Actually, all of your statement hit the nail on the head.

6 Sexy Bath Salts _T February 27, 2012 at 7:41 am

Her skin is amazing!!! She got some points back for Florida all by herself.

And I have seen videos of that brother before, and he is the real deal.

I already eat half-way decent… which is probably why I only look halfway decent. I can see moving to a raw foods diet over the next few years because anything that prevents serious illness, or at least reduces the chances of it, it worth it. Looking like Mr. Morris would be a great side-benefit too. It would be alot easier if I could make some kind of raw foods pizza and fried chicken, but I'll work it out.

7 Twink February 27, 2012 at 2:59 pm

Sir…I'm going to need your 30 looking self to have AWL of the seats in the coliseum. ALL OF THEM!!!

8 letinstar February 27, 2012 at 7:41 am

i'm gonna need to see a copy of miss annette's birth certificate…and mr. jim's…

prince is magical…he doesn't age…the end…

9 justme81 February 27, 2012 at 11:58 am

I'm convinced Prince's government name is Dorian Gray.

10 Beth Lanai February 27, 2012 at 1:56 pm

I swear I love this heffa!!!

11 Imtryingtocare February 27, 2012 at 8:04 am

A vegan diet can certainly do wonders for you. I became vegan because I have no doubt that animal protein is detrimental to my health. When we see individuals like the ones above, it is so easy for us to say they are special and have good genes. The truth is that many of us have diseases or conditions that are dormant, it is our terrible diets that awaken these ailments. I am a vegan for life.

side-note: PETA sucks a**, I hope they keep their hands off of these two.

12 Les February 27, 2012 at 8:28 am

My daughter wants to be a vegan. She's been a pescitarian (vegitarian that eats fish and eggs) for 5 years now. She's stopped soda and fruit flavored drinks, & doesn't even eat too many sweets.
Problem is, her doctor has told her she needs more sugar and salt in her system. People try eating "healthy" and forget that their body needs some of that stuff they're trying to cut out. If you're going to be a vegan, make sure you do it right.

Me, I'm gonna eat some bacon.

13 At Oddz February 27, 2012 at 8:38 am

"People try eating "healthy" and forget that their body needs some of that stuff they're trying to cut out. If you're going to be a vegan, make sure you do it right. "

my FIL is on a no sugar diet/low fat diet. that sugar he's cutting out included fruit. he finally realised that his body needed sugar and talked to his doctor about it, not the "health" magazines he reads faithfully. depravity can be a really bad thing…

14 Marina Lasanya February 27, 2012 at 8:52 am

ugh. MY FIL. forgot to log out again…

15 Beth Lanai February 27, 2012 at 8:38 am

yea my niece stopped eating red meat and pork some years ago and it did more harm than good…

she is now eating red meat in moderation…still won't eat pork…but adding red meat back to her diet has helped her already…

16 CaraQ301 February 27, 2012 at 12:58 pm

I'm like this: I eat chicken, some fish and red meat every once in a while. Cutting out the red meat helped me when I felt rundown, but when I crave something and can't identify it- that's usually when I need red meat.

17 Sexy Bath Salts _T February 27, 2012 at 8:54 am

Bless your eyes, they work in my favor. LOL. I don't know if I look younger (doubtful), but you definitely look better. You eat well, and your hair is healthier than anyone I know. Go on girl!!!

18 ToodySaysHey February 27, 2012 at 9:03 am

For me…my brain needs the protein. Yes, you can get protein from beans, nuts seeds tec, but my brain responds best to animal/fish protein.

I used to be vegan/vegetarian and a general healthnut..I do admit laziness has gotten the better of me.

19 The_CCDreamz February 27, 2012 at 9:10 am

I am not trying to be a pretty corpse. No one gets out of this life alive. *pulls up take out menu to decide what to eat for lunch*

20 Beth Lanai February 27, 2012 at 9:51 am

this heffa said she is not trying to be a pretty corpse

CC to the corner now!

21 The_CCDreamz February 27, 2012 at 10:36 am

*skips over to the corner with a chicken box and a jumbo half n half* And no, I ain't sharing.

22 chocl8t February 27, 2012 at 10:22 am

I will NEVER EVER GO VEGAN….NOT EVER!!! I love my grass fed lean beef. However I could stand to let loose this bacon I eat twice a week. I'll need an intervention for that ish. lol

23 Beth Lanai February 27, 2012 at 11:19 am

my homegirl tried the raw foods diet for about a week

not only was she hungry as hell she was mean as fugg

she cussed me smooth the fugg out one day over who would lose more weight

I was like for real Jack you just gonna cuss me out

once she went back to eating like she regularly did she admitted how hungry she was and how the diet irritated her LOL

24 chocl8t February 27, 2012 at 12:10 pm

LOL Hunger is no joke!!!

I do incorporate raw foods into my eating lifestyle. I have a great chocolate shake recipe that gives you loads of energy!! I admit, there are areas in which I can and should do better and I'm working towards that. But I refuse to go to the extreme in any direction. Nothing happy or healthy about that. ;-)

25 visionsC February 27, 2012 at 1:59 pm

When I cut the beef from my diet, I really did not see any change, now believe it or now when I cut the BACON (pork all together) out of my diet.. omg!! I had more energy. Didn't feel sluggish, dropped 20lb even my skin feels and looks better.. I dunno what's in the bayyyyykon but maybe its better we dont know lol

26 Zuly February 27, 2012 at 2:17 pm

I go through cycles with my bacon. Sometimes I'll eat it all the time, way too much, Then I'll go weeks without having any. I try to keep myself in check during my binges, though. I understand your pain. I love me some bacon.

27 Twink February 27, 2012 at 3:00 pm

Bacon is everything.

28 iamchocl8t February 27, 2012 at 3:50 pm

bacon is liiiife…and death all at the same time. lol

29 That Dude Bennegtt February 27, 2012 at 10:25 am

More power to them. I don't think I could do a raw/vegan diet, but I could incorporate some of it…*snacks on some friend chicken*

The difference between Annette & her husband though?

30 cakes_and_pies February 27, 2012 at 1:42 pm

She may have a big insurance policy out on him.

o_0

31 FubsyNumbles February 27, 2012 at 11:23 am

::Fails to comment, due to possessing a mouth filled with piri piri chicken flavoured crisps…..::

32 Marina Lasanya February 27, 2012 at 1:46 pm

ooooo! you know you're going to have to send some of those this way, yeah?

33 Virtual Virgo February 27, 2012 at 11:30 am

As I sit here and finish my lunch of General Tso's Chicken (chinese food), I wonder: Why is it so hard for some of us to take heed? They are clearly stating what they did, and have shown us the benefits. Yet we resist. Even her friends and her husband now say they wish they had listened.
Why is it so hard for us? We (except for Ce Ce, lol) want the benefits, but don't want to change.
I'm going to ponder that while my chicken digests…

34 The_CCDreamz February 27, 2012 at 11:41 am

After planting quite a few of my aunties, uncles, grandparents, and such, it came to my attention early in life that people love to walk up to the casket and say: They look good though. Peaceful. Like they are sleeping.

Damn if you'll say it about my azz. Y'all will be gatdam! I told her to lay off them wings, steak, cake, pie, alcohol, double stuffed baked potatoes, cheesecake and ish. That's a damn shame to go in the ground looking all used up.

Please know I had an awesome azz ride. *jaggles in the corner for spare change*

35 Zuly February 27, 2012 at 2:18 pm

You said planting though…

36 Beth Lanai February 27, 2012 at 1:35 pm

because i think this is so extreme from what most people normally do

if it were say eat a salad a day and be good…it wouldn't be so hard to do

but to go to this extreme and to limit yourself to just fruits and nuts is extreme and hard to understand…

and I think some people (like myself) are not sure it's this type of diet that is truly doing all of this…or the removing of processed foods that is really the benefit (Like I said above)…

I'd love to see an actual study on this to be honest…

*rubs belly full of chipotle*

37 Virtual Virgo February 27, 2012 at 1:42 pm

It would be really, really hard to give up Chipotle'….I think I'm going there for dinner tonight to contemplate this further.

38 Beth Lanai February 27, 2012 at 1:45 pm

lol I'd love to be able to make it myself at home…to help control the sodium and fat content…and of course save some money

been researching recipes online but kinda scared to try them lol

39 The_CCDreamz February 27, 2012 at 2:02 pm

There is a doctor who does a show on PBS who is always talking about just eating nuts and berries for snacks and such. All I could think when he said that was: And what size are your nuts now that you don't eat red meat anymore. There is nothing but estrogen screaming at me from the tv screen. Your wife has my condolences.

40 visionsC February 27, 2012 at 12:34 pm

To each their own, BUT… In my opinion there's backlash for everything and in everything….. Switching over to fruits and nuts after eating like a pig for 30 years can send your body into shock and end up, with illnesses. Switching over slowly, perhaps….. There are ways to stay healthy by still eating meat. However, I'm off PORK. I'm off COW. I'm down to only Chicken and Fish…………. So Who knows what will happen in a few years from now… What scares me is some people read this and like RIGHT NOW in their refrigerators throwing shyt out their window .. kids coming home from school and they realize they eating nothing but carrots sticks and some tofu for supper today. lol

41 Marina Lasanya February 27, 2012 at 1:46 pm

switching over SLOWLY is the key. it is certainly possible, but it's just as you stated. a lot of people don't realise that your body detoxes from food, especially processed food. it's the same a quitting cigarettes. quitting cold turkey can make you sick and send you into withdrawals, making some sick. it is indeed a process and i'm sure they had to endure that, too before they got there.

42 iamchocl8t February 27, 2012 at 3:55 pm

I did a semi detox. started eating salads only for a week or so …no meats no cooked foods then a 3 day fast. I can't begin to tell how great I felt. I intend to do another after my trip to Thailand so I can finally kick the processed white sugar habit and coffee.

43 Marina Lasanya February 27, 2012 at 11:30 pm

wow! have a great time in thailand!

that white sugar habit is going to be a hard one for me as i hate the taste of splenda and stevia and whatever else that's a "sugar alternative". i love my baked goods, especially when i'm doing the baking. but i have found that natural sugar from fruit is just as good, if not better for my sugar cravings (although that's what the doctor said, too lol)

44 Saran_Dipity February 28, 2012 at 6:30 am

You're going to Thailand? I live in Vietnam, and I go to Bangkok for the weekend sometimes – when will you be there? It would be great to meet some of the people whose comments I love reading :-) but since I live so far away, the meet-ups are kind of out of the question…

45 originalwharris February 27, 2012 at 1:11 pm

More power to them. I know I can't go that route. I'll just eat what I can in moderation and exercise more.

46 QueenCoopah February 27, 2012 at 1:19 pm

I already look like I’m 15…(I’m almost 22) so I’m good…

47 QueenCoopah February 27, 2012 at 1:21 pm

I already look like I'm 15 (I'm almost 22) when I tell people my age they do this O_O no way let me see your ID!! (its so hard to get a simple martini sometimes…smh) but yeah I'm good. I'll just keep eating right and snack every blue moon and continue working out

48 Beth Lanai February 27, 2012 at 1:33 pm

almost 22

I'm old enough to be yo momma!!! get somewhere!!!

LMAO

49 QueenCoopah February 27, 2012 at 2:39 pm

yes ma'am! *sits in corner and twiddles thumbs* (^_^)

50 iamchocl8t February 27, 2012 at 3:57 pm

almost 22? whew girl holla at me in 23 yrs!!!! lolol

51 The Hell Bus Driver February 27, 2012 at 2:19 pm

I was a vegetarian for about 7 years before I rejoined the meat-eating masses nearly 15 years ago. I wasn't the healthy kind of vegetarian for most of that time. Similarly, there are unhealthy vegans out there because Crisco, Oreo cookies and a host of other products are technically vegan.

Early last year, I saw a movie called "Forks Over Knives" that speaks to the benefits of eating a plant-based diet. (The movie is now available on Netflix Instant and is only about 85 minutes long.)

Shortly before I saw the movie, I took part in a 21-day Vegan Kickstart program that helped me reset what it meant to eat a healthy diet that used a variety of foods so I wouldn't be eating the same thing constantly. The kickstart is a great way to detox your body since it is low-fat, high-fiber, and low on added sugars.

After the kickstart, I started to cook many more vegan/veg-friendly meals and continue to do so today. I still eat meat on occasion, but it's not in large quantities.

I received a number of vegan cookbooks for Christmas last year so I could continue expanding my veg cooking repertoire. I highly recommend Supermarket Vegan for those wanting to see if this is a lifestyle that could work for them. The recipes are great and I've yet to make one I didn't like.

All that to say, what we put in our mouths is on us and any consequences that come from it should be owned by us as well. Just as there are vegans who drop dead at 45, there are 115 year olds who eat a cheeseburger once a week.

52 tester70 February 28, 2012 at 10:15 am

I watched forks over knives too it was informative. But I don’t want to go vegan just make some changes to my processed food intake.

PS I want to see old girls REAL hair Color…she ain’t fooling me

53 Leo_YardieChick February 27, 2012 at 2:48 pm

I love vegetables, but I doubt I will ever go full on vegetarian or vegan. I'm aiming to start growing my own vegetables in the summer, because the prices are ri-damn-diculous, and the products are chuck full of fertilizer. As for meat, ideally I'd like to cut back on the amount that I eat, but I really don't see myself giving it up completely.

Good for this woman, though. She found what works for her.

54 Ardamus79 February 27, 2012 at 3:47 pm

Benjamin Button Juice.

55 Chemcutie February 27, 2012 at 6:37 pm

Reading this article and sitting here wishing I could look OLDER!!!!!!
Tired of folks at my company asking me if I'm the intern. Tired of 16 year old boys asking me for my number. Tired of folks thinking I had my daughter when I was 12-13 years old.

And I eat hella meat!

56 VintageReign February 27, 2012 at 7:24 pm

I do try to incorporate more raw veggies into my eating habits, my problem is carrots. Raw carrots makes saliva gather in my mouth and then vomit. Yep, carrots and almonds make me ill, but I love leafy greens other veges and fruit.

57 flowerpeddlesmehtare13 February 27, 2012 at 10:22 pm

A lot of it is diet, a lot of it is lifestyle, a lot of it is spirituality…. and a lot of it is just plain ol' being a Gemini!!!

Seriously! How many Geminis look their age? Not many, that I PROMISE you!

58 TheErick01 February 27, 2012 at 10:52 pm

I will continue to eat what I want!
Genetics probably play the biggest part in this. I work at a Y with 30 year old personal trainers that look like they are 50! They eat well and workout all the time! Just bad genetics, and also the sun!
Sun damage on the skin is one of the biggest causes of aging skin! So put on that cocoa butter and sun screen if you want to look young. Take a look at Stacey Dash! She puts that sunscreen on errday.

59 AKA_Lefty February 27, 2012 at 11:04 pm

I used to manage a vegan restaurant and nutrition and natural foods are an area of interest for me. For a lot of people, veganism is more of a political statement than a dietary one and they are not the healthiest. There are cerain nutrients vegans miss that come predominantly from meat products but if you can add wheat germ and brewer's yeast to make up for the loss. The Aruvedic diet from India is the closest to a perfect vegetarian diet since their specific combinations give complete proteinsaand balance of carbs and fats plus the copious use of spices supplies the body with antioxidants and anti-inflammatories. They do sometimes use ghee, which is clarified butter, in their diet.

60 AKA_Lefty February 27, 2012 at 11:22 pm

The biggest thing you can do to change your body isgetting rid of all the processed food in your life. No prepakaged meals, no boxes you pull out of the freezer, etc; nothing that you don't make yourself from organic ingredients. You don't have to go totally raw or vegan but cut back on red meat to 1-2 times a week, eat more veggies, especially dark leafy ones. Cut back on refined sugar since it is the biggest cause of inflamation in the bodyand can makes the body's ph more acidic, which can exacerbate illnesses and conditions. Reduce salt intake but since most people get their iodine from iodized salt , their thyroid, the master gland gets affected and metablolism changes so iodine supplemantation might be recomended.

61 AKA_Lefty February 27, 2012 at 11:36 pm

Some books you might want to chack out if you're interested:

Dr. Earl Mindel's Encyclopedia of Vitamins, Minerals and Supplements. Gives you the breakdown of every vitamin and essential mineral, the best natural food sources and how much to take if supplementing. Great anti-aging and cholesterol reducing advice with a section on amino acids and natural remedies too. He knows because he's a pharmacist.

The Perricone Solution. He's a plastic surgeon who sells his own line of expensive products, but he actually tells you the science and chemical processes that causes the body to break down. Antioxidants and anti-inflammatories are his big thing.

Clean by Dr. Junger. Medical Dr. with huge background in alternative therapies. If you want to detox safely with no hunger pains or radical fasting diet such as the Master Cleanse, follow his book. Then use the guides to follow more healthful eating.

Sugar Busters for scary reading.

62 RedladyRae February 28, 2012 at 11:14 am

I live in Oregon. This ish is crazy out here. There are whole stores dedicated to this out here! You can't order a burger without someone looking down their nose at you (depending on where you order it from.). They'll even ask you "um, do you know how many calories are in that?" number 1: biatch, stop eyeballing MY plate and go back to your plate of birdseeds and berries.

With that being said, I don't care what you do with your diet. We can debate this all day. My thing is everything in moderation. Don't make your diet an obsession. Yes, cut out as many processed foods as possible. I get so sick of seeing these hippies and health junkies taking out notepads every time they consider what they want to eat. Jotting down calories and fat and whatever else to see if they will exceed their daily intake. Do you know how much time goes into that?! You could have saved the nation in the time you took to figure all that nonsense out. A parent could've payed more attention to their child. A lover could've given more attention to their significant other. Too damn much!
Ok I'm done.

I'll still eat my occasional bacon and ham though. Moderation.
