TAMPA, FL — Failure to pay a car payment usually prompts a call from the bank or credit service.? Not paying the car payments and then torching the car landed two in jail.
A Honda Accord owned by Michael Peterson caught fire November 2, 2008.? Investigators from the Tampa Fire Marshall’s office?believe the car was set on fire which led to the arrest of Michael Peterson and Dermaine Grier.? Both face 2nd degree arson charges and Grier has an additional charge of grand theft.
Peterson was?$40,000 in debt because of the car.? Detectives say he gave the keys to a co-worker Grier in order to get rid of the car.? Grier reportedly drove around in the car for a few days before removing the rims and tires which he put on his ‘95 Nissan Maxima.? Later on the evening of November 2nd, detectives say Grier set the Honda on fire.
The additional charge of grand theft against Grier is for taking the rims and tires.
Grier was released on $10,000 bond and Peterson was released on his own recognizance.

Um… what do they owe that much for? Maybe interest of something? Accords aren’t in the $40K range, are they? Now, I haven’t car shopped in a while, but Hondas being $40K is a helluva jump from what I last remember!
