Terrence Howard out. Don Cheadle in for Iron Man 2.

October 14th, 2008 by Slausnificent

If you did not see last summer’s block buster hit: Iron man, I don’t know what you are doing with your life, i really don’t. But for those of us who saw the flick, we had the chance at seeing Terrence Howard play the role of Tony Stark’s best friend; Jim Rhodes.  But sadly, even with an extended part in Iron Man 2, Terrence Howard has gotten the boot or decided not to take part in the feature. Depends on what version of the tale you believe…

Not sure what to make of the news, in today’s Hollywood Reporter, that Don Cheadle will be replacing Terrence Howard in Iron Man 2. The article hints that Howard wanted too much money for the sequel, which will see his character, sidekick Jim Rhodes, playing a bigger role, perhaps fulfilling his comic-book destiny as Marvel hero War Machine. But the absence of a deal with Howard also allowed Marvel to “take the role in another direction” by approaching Cheadle, the Reporter says.

What does that mean? Marvel’s not talking about acting talent here; Crashcostars Howard and Cheadle are both top-notch, Oscar-nominated actors. But Howard has an intense, leading-man charisma, while Cheadle is a chameleonic actor who seems to vanish into his roles. Some Iron Manviewers found Howard odd and out of place in the film; others cheered him on, especially when he looked at that suit of armor and said, “Next time.” What does the fact that “next time” now belongs to Cheadle mean for the Rhodes character and his prominence in the sequel? Will fans prefer Cheadle to Howard, or will they resent any change in the first film’s winning formula? Weigh in below, PopWatchers

That’s really fugged up man, because I REALLY wanted to see my boy Terrence Howard get into the suped up Black n Silver Iron man suit known as the War Machine.  O well…  It isn’t like Don Cheadle isnt an amazing actor his damn self.. I just hate change.

yeah im a comic book dork, fugg yall.  Keep talking ish hear.. and im going to get you a signed copy of E.A.D issue #1.

Cheadle isn’t superhero to me *shrug*. Amazing fucking actor, but not comic book superheroish.

I was boosted to see my boy TH in the squeal.

    I’m sad now.

  2. Can't Take It

Haven’t seen it yet(waiting for the DVD to come to me here at the library so I don’t have to buy/rent it), but I have to agree with Ms. Exclusive and say that I do not see Don Cheadle as a superhero type of actor, though he IS a damn good actor.

Not that Terence Howard doesn’t have cheezeball written all over his lightskinded ass, but I’m figuring he was a better choice.

Terrence and Don dont seem a good fit for me.

The character from what I remember of the comic was intense and intimidating, on some old angry black man joint.

Neither of those dudes scare me.

  4. Clnmike

Oh and him being light skinned might have been a problem too.

  5. Chocl8t

Don Cheadle could end up stealing the show. Remember “Devil In A Blue Dress”.

To me TH was forgettable in this role so being replaced will barely be a blip on the screen.

Disclosure: I DON’T LIKE TERRANCE “Baby Wipes my ass” HOWARD

  6. Minista

I would take Don in the role over TH. I heard TH talkin on the phone in line @ the airport once..and he sounded like a gay white guy. I lost all respect for him after that.Besides that..Don kicks ass.

I’m with Min, I’m not a TH fan but not a hater either. I just think Don can bring more depth to the performance even though he ain’t superhero in stature. He is in the mind though, the dude is intense. TH ain’t there yet

  8. divalalake

Yeah, Cheadle doesn’t look like a super hero, but I think if he works out, puts on some serious muscle and ramps up the intensity, he might change some minds out there.

  9. Minista

U people do realize…WAR MACHINE is a suit of armour. Robert Downey Jr. didnt have to get buff to play Iron Man.

  10. Jada

Well…I didn’t see the first movie, but I think I’d take Don over TH anyday. Don has been the shit to me as an actor ever since I seen him in that movie Earl the Goat Manigult as a kid. Been a fan ever since. He would play the hell out of this role.

LMAO@ minista… you aint neva lie!
But fa real though i was lookin forward to seein TH as War Machine. I love me some Don Cheadle and i think he is an amazing actor but i just don’t see him playing this part. I think he may be a lil to intense for it.

  12. Ms.LizziA

Dont ask me why Tyler Perry just popd in my head as a potential to play this role

  13. sammydeen

    Liz…get out

  14. mrbiig

Don cheadle scared me as that villain in meteor man :-p

  15. mrbiig

lol @ tyler perry’s fruity pebbles azz

  16. Wilfredo

Tyler Perry?!? I’m gonna drop that.

A lot of folks couldn’t see Robert Downey Jr. when it was announced that he was going to be Tony Stark. And look how that turned out. I think Cheadle is going to own the Rhodey role.

  17. Folk

    This is some Bull Sh!T.

I hate movies that change characters. They better mend this up well. I know they will have to depart from the comic book to explain this ish. D@mned.

Had to go and fvcking ruin my day big time didn’t ya.
