Justin Timberlake: Racist or No?
I’ve always liked Justin Timberlake– he pissed me off with the way he handled the Janet Jackson “Nipplegate” situation, but I’ve always thought he was talented and very funny on SNL.
Recently he performed on the ESPYs… and apparently did this:
JT was reportedly teasing Boston Celtics basketball player Paul Pierce about his injured knee in Game 1 of the NBA Finals. In describing how Pierce quickly came back, Justin joked that Pierce was back on the court, “shucking and jiving.”
The comment, which was cut out of the broadcast that aired Sunday night, was met with silence from the crowd when the show taped on Wednesday.
For those not in the know, “shuckin’ and jivin’” is a slang term primarily used by African Americans referring to the speech and behavioural mechanisms adopted in the presence of authority figures. The term usually involves clever lies and impromptu storytelling, used to one-up an opponent or avoid punishment and originated in the era of slavery.
Yikes. I don’t know if this is “racist” or not (What IS racist anymore, anyway?)… I think he probably made a poor choice of words..typical southern white guy (He’s from Memphis) who isn’t really aware of racial sensitivity.

unique definition of shuckin’ and jivin…never heard that before…always thought of shuckin and jivin’ as some jiggaboo type dancin’ think of part of the chicken noodle soup dance…
anyway….I don’t even care…about this and think its a tadbit of a stretch….

I can’t get over his punk ass having his mama defend him after nipplegate. So, I don’t deal with JT anymore. He’s a bitttchh. And so is his mama.
Talking about someone taking advantage her her young inexperienced son. Can’t NOBODY spend that much time with Brit and come out innocent.

He’s from my city, so he gets a pass on this on, just like he got a pass for giving my what I always hoped for at the superbowl.
Had it been anyone else , like Will Ferrell, I’d be tryna fly out to LA and shuck and jive all over his spine, but JT from the hometown, so he good.

JT is the biggest bitchmade wigga ever, and it is ironic how ANOTHER White dude from Memphis uses black talent for his own benefit and sound like a certain dead bloated rocker…
…But you know what, the muthafucka made the very album I would make if I was a musician looking for a pop/r&b sound.

He may be talented, or just have the funds to hire the right producers, but I don’t think he’s bright enough to realize that statement had racial undertones. To suggest such would be to suggest he’s actually socially bright. Most stars that grow up in the spot light or in the industry have little or no understanding of actual social skills or awareness outside of what’s said in the media.

Shuck and jive was used regularly on The Dukes of Hazzrd,Bo and Luke would regularly pull the ole shuck and jive to outsmart Roscoe.
