“I’m a Thick Girl!” says Raven Simone.

October 15th, 2008 by Slausnificent

According to our friends over at Bossip, it looks like lil ol Raven Simone decided she needed to set the record straight about a few things via her myspace page.

1) ITS FALSE THAT IM DATING A GIRL RIGHT NOW.

2)RUDE TO QUESTION SOMETHING SO PERSONAL. WE ARE ALWAYS FIGHTING FOR THE RIGHTS FOR THE GAY AND LESBIAN COMMUNITY.

MY BODY SIZE; OOOHHH MY GOD!!!! HOW MANY YEARS HAS IT BEEN… IV BEEN ON TV FOR 21 YEARS, AND IV ALWAYS BEEN THICK…..OK!!!!
NOW IF ANYONE KNOWS MY FAMILY, ALL OF THE WOMEN EXCEPT FOR A FEW, STRUGGLE WITH KEEPING WHAT IS A SOCIALLY EXCEPT-ABLE WEIGHT. WHEN I STRESS I GAIN, WHEN IM HAPPY WHO KNOWS… I HAD A LOT OF PERSONAL THINGS HAPPEN TO ME AT THE END OF THE SHOW, DEALING WITH FAMILY, AND MY EX-BOYFRIEND CHEATED ON ME AND I HAD TO BREAK UP WITH HIM (LISTEN TO LOVE ME OR LEAVE ME, AND SECRETS) AND LIKE ANY FEMALE WITH A PROBLEM, DELT WITH IT A CERTAIN WAY!

ID LOVE IF THE INDUSTRY COULD ONE DAY UNDERSTAND THAT THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN OBESITY AND FAT AND THICK AND THIN AND SICK. I AM A THICK GIRL, I HAVE NEVER BEEN OVER A SIZE 12, I CAN RUN, AND I TRY MY BEST TO EAT RIGHT ALL THE TIME. I AM NOT THE TEXT BOOK WEIGHT THAT THEY SAY I SHOULD BE, BUT EVERYDAY I HAVE MY OWN PERSONAL STRUGGLES, AND I THINK THAT PEOPLE NEED TO RESPECT THAT.

…………………………………………………………..

……………………………….. Oh im sorry, Yall done reading that? :: puts my clothes back on :: . Sorry, I was uh.. just.. reading and uhm… man bunk yall. I was touching myself inappropriately, shyt.  Get out of my business.

Personally I hope Raven continues to do what she does and remains happy with herself as she is, because she has blossomed into an amazingly beautiful young woman. I mean that sinsuuurly. She’s gorgeous. She’s enterprising….

and she’s thicker than waffles.

So what IS thick? Can you really limit it to a particular size?

CNN or HULU.COM
9pm Est - 8pmcst - 6pm pst

OK folks.. this is it. The final debate between Senators John McCain and Barack Obama.

As many of you have come to know, the readers of OHN have come together on each of these debate events, and watched them together via the web. Tonight we will do the same thing… but with a twist.

We’re dranking!

So stop by the store on the way home tonight, get a bottle of your favourite drink AND tylenol, as we get ready to enjoy this last battle of wits, non question answering, and disrespectful snipes.

But to make it more interesting, we will play a bit of a drinking game as a fam.  So when you hear the following phrases, take a drink!

Single sip
My friends - McCain
POW - McCain
Main STreet and Wall Street - in the same sentence
Let’s be Frank here. - Obama
Look. - Obama
Maverick - McCain
Fundamental - Either
Gentlemen.. gentlemen - The moderator
More of the same - either
Suspended my campaign - McCain
Working across the aisle - Either

American - Either

Middle Class - Either

Double Gulps…
Ayers - McCain
Keating 5 - Obama
Reverend Wright - McCain
Timmons - Obama

Finish the bottle if the following is said:
“Look you dirty half nigger!” McCain

“get off my gotdamn lawn!” McCain

If someone yells out from the audience “Kill Obama!!!” Take yourself out the game so you can meet Obama in the Upper Room.

Dr. Wanna’s Relationship Talk - Her vs Them

October 15th, 2008 by Wanna

Wednesday, October 15, 2008

Dear Dr. Wanna -

My wife and I have been together for 15 years, married for half that time.  I love her, but lately I am feeling as if she doesn’t really know me.  I am not like most other men that I know.  I never have been interested in chasing tail just for the sake of the conquest: casual sex is not and has not been my thing.  I don’t give a shyt about appearances or what other dudes think and I freely speak my mind, and so because of this I don’t really have any male friends.  All of my friends and closest associates are all females.  And they are just that - friends.  She knows this.  She has always known this.  But lately she has been really tripping about me spending time with my friends.  When I try to include her, she always cops an attitude about how she has not interest in meeting any of my “little girl friends”.  So I say fine, and I hang out with my girls without her.  But she STILL gets pissed.  She’s started accusing me of cheating on her, or of wanting to cheat on her, and no matter how much I tell her that is not the case she won’t budge.  And no - I have never cheated on her before, not in 15 muthafu*king years.

We are at the point now where she is trying to force me to decide between her or my female friends.  But see, if I get rid of all of my female friends, I won’t have any friends at all.  And she has not been my friend in a long time - she obviously does not even know who I am anymore.  I’ve always had female friends, I’ve always hung out a couple of times a month and I’ve NEVER slept around for the sake of a nut.  If she don’t know me by now, she’s not going to ever know me.  I want this marriage to work but she is frustrating me to the point where I am beginning not to care anymore.  What do you think I should do?

Sincerely,

NOT LIKE THE OTHER GUYS

***

Dear Readers of O Hell Nawl -

Short of recommending marriage counseling for this couple with a professional shrink, I do not know what to tell this patient.  He and I have chatted over the phone about this and everything I suggested ending up sending us in a full circle.  I won’t tell you what all I said - I’ll just ask you guys to share whatever advice YOU would give NOT LIKE THE OTHER GUYS, so I can see what you all come up with.

SOME TIDBITS:

  • They have 2 children
  • She’s gained some weight, which she hates but he LOVES (she went from say a size 6 to a 16)
  • He really doesn’t like the idea of divorce, but she isn’t interested in a lot of the things he is anymore and he would be lonely without friends

** pats hand on my couch **  Have a seat and let’s discuss!

Good Loving!

Terrence Howard out. Don Cheadle in for Iron Man 2.

October 14th, 2008 by Slausnificent

If you did not see last summer’s block buster hit: Iron man, I don’t know what you are doing with your life, i really don’t. But for those of us who saw the flick, we had the chance at seeing Terrence Howard play the role of Tony Stark’s best friend; Jim Rhodes.  But sadly, even with an extended part in Iron Man 2, Terrence Howard has gotten the boot or decided not to take part in the feature. Depends on what version of the tale you believe…

Not sure what to make of the news, in today’s Hollywood Reporter, that Don Cheadle will be replacing Terrence Howard in Iron Man 2. The article hints that Howard wanted too much money for the sequel, which will see his character, sidekick Jim Rhodes, playing a bigger role, perhaps fulfilling his comic-book destiny as Marvel hero War Machine. But the absence of a deal with Howard also allowed Marvel to “take the role in another direction” by approaching Cheadle, the Reporter says.

What does that mean? Marvel’s not talking about acting talent here; Crashcostars Howard and Cheadle are both top-notch, Oscar-nominated actors. But Howard has an intense, leading-man charisma, while Cheadle is a chameleonic actor who seems to vanish into his roles. Some Iron Manviewers found Howard odd and out of place in the film; others cheered him on, especially when he looked at that suit of armor and said, “Next time.” What does the fact that “next time” now belongs to Cheadle mean for the Rhodes character and his prominence in the sequel? Will fans prefer Cheadle to Howard, or will they resent any change in the first film’s winning formula? Weigh in below, PopWatchers

That’s really fugged up man, because I REALLY wanted to see my boy Terrence Howard get into the suped up Black n Silver Iron man suit known as the War Machine.  O well…  It isn’t like Don Cheadle isnt an amazing actor his damn self.. I just hate change.

yeah im a comic book dork, fugg yall.  Keep talking ish hear.. and im going to get you a signed copy of E.A.D issue #1.

Common & Serena say fugg a stereotype.

October 14th, 2008 by Slausnificent

Your favourite power couple that aren’t really a “couple”, were out having a damn good time enjoying life in Hawaii doing what more folks need to.

Just enjoy themselves.

As I was peeping these folks living it up and enjoying a few waves, I thought to myself… I bet there is someone out there right now saying: Black People Surf?

Yes, bytch. Yes we do.

I know we like to have a great time joking about what we happily refer to as Black Folk Shit and Wife folk Shit, but when it comes down to it we are all pretty damn similar in the things we enjoy.

You might THINK that black people don’t para sail, surf, watch hockey, play dungeon n dragons, sky dive, save money, be father’s, or investigate spookey noises, but we do. Just as when you sit  next to that nerdy Asian guy in class for months only to see that same kid free-styling some ill lyrics at the local hip-hop spot, and it makes your jaw drop.

As much as we are all Black, Asian, Latino, Beige, White, etc, there are plenty of things we might do that is viewed as straight up stereotypical. But when you break it down to the invidivual level? I bet many of us would be suprised to discover the things each of your fellow OHNfam enjoy that might be seen as going against the norm.

So let’s find out… name 5 activities you enjoy that other’s might find to be completely against the stereotype.

p.s. Serena got ASS!!

Michelle Obama’s Link to Anderson Cooper

October 14th, 2008 by ambboogie

Damn:

A genealogical study has found that silvern newsman Anderson Cooper’s great-great-grandfather, Cornelius Vanderbilt, once owned Michelle Obama’s great-great-grandfather, Jim Robinson, on Friendfield(!!!!!!!!!), a 3,000-acre plantation in Georgetown, South Carolina.

HatTip: Mollygood

Just.. wow.  How does one even respond to this?

Yes, all of the black folks reading this are more than likely descendants of slaves (unless you’re 1st, 2nd or 3rd generation direct-from-Africa), but I couldn’t help but be sad when I read this.  I believe that many of us don’t necessarily repress that ugly history that our country has involving us directly, but we don’t necessarily think about it on a regular basis.

We see the remnants of slavery every day: Prejudice, people in this day and age saying they don’t want to vote for the black guy cause he’s well.. black, the subtle shades or racism that many of us experience on a regular to semi-regular basis.

However, stories like this one remind us just how real it is.

How can anyone say “get over it!” when we’re only a decades away from this?

Now, I’m in no way supporting using ‘racism’ as an excuse for any and everything, which unfortunately is why that claim holds less and less weight,   but when you have a popular TV news anchor connected so deeply to the wife of a presidential candidate in such a negative way, who out there doesn’t just step back and reflect?

What I’m curious about  is… what do Anderson Cooper and Michelle Obama think about this?  Probably nothing they’d like to share with the public, I’m sure.

In many ways, Michelle Obama’s family is responsible for Anderson Cooper’s family’s wealth, and in turn, Anderson Cooper’s family is responsible for Michelle’s family’s ‘working-class’ status.

Oh, life.

Nikka Costa
Pebble to a pearl

Nikka Costa….she’s been around for a while. I remember her working with Prince, she actually reminds me of Prince in some ways musically. She’s always had a unique sound to me but I’ve never really gotten into her and I’m not sure why.

This CD is being touted as one of her best. I really can’t compare it to anything cause I don’t have any of her other CD’s. But I will be looking into getting them soon.

She’s got a very soulful raspy slightly Janis Joplin type voice. This CD is again a slight throwback to the 60’s and 70’s which I’m beginning to side eye this new avenue music is taking. But I wasn’t like UGH when I started listening to this CD. It’s not as blatant if that makes sense. And her voice just fits every song just right.

It’s a little more mellow than some of the other “throwback style” CD’s I’ve heard here lately. It has a nice bluesy vibe to it with some rock and funk thrown in for good measure.

Overall…I like it allot.

Standout tracks:

Stuck to you
Pebble to a pearl
Cry baby
Keep pushin’
Without love
Loving You
Bullets in the sky

The Foreign Exchange
Leave it all behind

I can honestly say I had never heard of The Foreign Exchange and this is their second CD. And it’s probably because they are rapper/singer/songwriter Phonte (yea dude from little brother) and hip hop producer Nicolay. Y’all know I don’t do hip hop much.

So when they say leave it all behind I guess they mean it. I wouldn’t put this in a hip hop category AT ALL. It’s very jazzy, moody, soulful maybe a touch of hip hop in it musically. But this is not a rap CD at all if that’s what you were expecting. Phonte only raps for a few seconds on a song or 2 on the entire CD. The rest he’s actually singing and he’s not that bad of a singer, to me anyway.

It’s a very smooth CD and it flows really well. I’m rather impressed with this CD and I had no clue what I was getting myself into as I started listening to it.

This CD makes me think of H2O Productions CD’s for some reason, sorry that was a random thought.

So yea I like it I like it allot.

Standout tracks: All of them.

Happy Listening Peeps!

*disclaimer* I apologize if my reviews seem to ramble I write these while I’m at work and people seem to think I’m here to work hehe
